Every year the Czestochowa monastery is visited by over 5 million pilgrims from arounf the world. They come to see the Black Madonna painting. In 1382 the painting was moved from Krakow to Jasna Gora by a walking pilgrimage. It was decorated with five silver and gold plated  badges that fill the background of the painting. They represent the most important scenes from Christ's life.

Jasna Gora is an important place in Polish history. The monastery was an inspiration for many polish writers.
